I have an amazing doctor. Anyone who knows me well enough knows that those words have never slipped out of my mouth (or onto my keyboard) except for the times I described my chiropractor. Different kind of doctor.
As you all know I have been having some pains and I wasn’t sure if I should be or could be back to exercising again. Today I had my post-surgery follow-up and we discussed everything .. the pain, my fears, my past, my future.
Truth is, polyps don’t normally cause pain. They do cause other symptoms, which I didn’t have, and before my surgery my doctor told me that she wasn’t convinced that removing the polyp would stop the pain, but that a polyp should be removed regardless and that she would do the surgery.
And so she did.
And it went well. Very well.
Yet.. the pain continues.
Process of elimination means that it wasn’t the polyp that was causing the pain. On one hand, I could be frustrated. And honestly part of me is. But. Thanks to Volunteers in Medicine and volunteer doctors and donated services, the surgery was free. So no harm there. And I no longer have a polyp. Which is good for later in my life when I am ready to start a family.
In the end, we will continue to try to find a solution. This time I have health insurance so instead of costing me $550 to see a doctor, it will cost me the $25 copay. And today she gave me a 3-month supply of trial #1. Here’s to hoping it works.
She also told me to run bike swim hike rock climb yoga fly fish quilt conquer the world dance party sky dive snowshoe XC ski strength train cross fit P90X to my heart’s content.
Because I am fully recovered from surgery and whatever pain I am feeling now is just something I need to deal with right now. Together we are going to figure it out.
When she said, “Me too,” after I said, “I just really want my body back.”
I believed her.
Did I tell you she’s a runner? And she’s 2 years older than me.. I am really glad I got paired with her.
I have never said that about a doctor. Ever.
I need a plan .. but Dirty Half Marathon is up next. Time to get busy..
Amazing attitude! Here’s hoping “trial #1″ works.
